Services

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:  Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.  Ultrasound studies, both abdominal and cardiac (echocardiograms), can be performed by Dr. Maness. She has over 264 hours of formal training in sonagraphy. These studies are usually done in our Newcastle office, but arrangements can be made for an on site study at your referring veterinarian.  Telemedicine uploads are also available for board certified specialist review of cases.

Surgical Services:  Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. The roomy suite gives room for complicated procedures.  Nitrogen for the orthopedic drills as well as back up oxygen are always available.

Anesthesia:  We utilize a very safe inhalant anesthetic to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. An IV catheter is placed in the vein as a precaution before beginning any anesthetic procedure. Gas anesthesia with an endotracheal tube in place is the normal protocol. That way we can easily change the level of anesthesia for your pets safety and comfort.  Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures. Our monitors include the electrocardiogram (ECG), pulse oximeter (checks oxygen levels in the blood), a CO2 monitor for the levels of carbon dioxide in the blood, blood pressure, and core body temperature.  We also have backups in case one of the monitors has electrical problems. This images are saved as part of your pet's permanent record on our computer system.

Internal medicine:   Full workups and minor endoscopic procedures can be performed to help us with the diagnosis of more complicated cases. Consultations with specialists or VIN seaches can also be instituted.

Radiology Services:  Our X-ray equipment is located in the surgical suite to provide high quality radiographs during and immediately after orthopedic procedures without having to move the patient. Our automatic processor gives us a dry readable film within minutes to aid in the assessment of fracture stablization. It also allows a quick diagnosis of many disorders. Upgraded to digital capture films in 2015, but still with intraoperative capabilities as well as a separate x-ray area.

Electrocardiography Services:  We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists. Blood pressures can be evaluated both by Doppler or pressure cuffs.

Dentistry:  Our dental services include routine teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery. Advanced gingival flaps procedures for oronasal fistulas can also be performed.

Laboratory:  Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for complete hematology (complete blood count) including the platelets, a full 17 panel serology test to evaluate the organ funtions or can spot test just one organ value, blood gasses as well as blood electrolytes. antigen testing, urinalysis, cytology, and parasite testing. We also utilize a commercial full service veterinary laboratory for any questionable samples, or histopathology (biopsies), cultures, or other specialized tests.

Permanent identification: We offer Home Again microchip identification. A Universal reader is available to scan any pet, found animal, or stray during office hours.

Pharmacy:  We maintain an inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of Science Diet prescription diets and other diets can be special ordered.

Individualized Flea Control Programs:  We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet.

Dietary Counseling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.

Behavioral Counseling:  We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression. A graduate of the Tom Rose School for professional dog trainers has agreed to work with cases on an individual or group bases.
